Podcast: Gruff Rhys exclusive [MP3]

TIMESONLINE: Pete Paphides meets Gruff Rhys [MP3], sometimes of Super Furry Animals, and Lisa Gen, who sings on Candylion, Gruff's second solo album. Recorded on Anglesey, the album took three weeks to make, a fraction of what most recordings take. Gruff reveals that he finds travelling the best time for song ideas; he wrote the album's 15-minute long last track Skylon while sitting next to a C-list celebrity on an aeroplane. Every vinyl version of the album includes a flatpack version of the Candylion character, and Gruff promises that without screws this'll be easier to assemble than the usual Ikea effort. As well as fasinating chat, you can hear Gruff play Circle of Violence - a song influenced by rolling news and the Iraq war - live in the studio for the first time since the Green Man Festival.

When Noel met Pele [MP3]

OMM"s Luke Bainbridge interviewed Noel Gallagher recently for the magazine's World Cup special, following rumours that 'our kid' had met Pele.

Turned out it wasn't so much a meeting as a hallway 'bumping into'. However, the chance encounter sparked some fond memories for the Oasis singer/songwriter.

Listen to him reminiscing about his football heroes, partying with Maradona, 'the John Lennon of football', and making some wild claims about his own football prowess here.

Am I alone in wanting to see Gallagher put his football boots where his mouth is?

Podcast: Jarvis Cocker [MP3]

OMM: The guest editor of this month's Music Monthly magazine - that's Jarvis Cocker - has wanted to get to the bottom of a thorny question: music - what's that all about then?

To answer it, he called on a handful of friends and associates who were with him in Dublin to perform a concert of songs by Leonard Cohen.

So it was that a week last Wednesday - October 4 - in what was billed as the penthouse meeting room at the Clarence Hotel (really, it was a bit boxy, and the price of a plate of sandwiches!) the erstwhile singer of Pulp sat down next to his mate Anthony Genn from hot new band The Hours, who was next to Antony Hegarty from Antony and the Johnsons; he in turn sat beside Beth Orton, who was next to Nick Cave and the great Mary Margaret O'Hara (making a rare public appearance). The line-up was completed by OMM's own critic-at-large Paul Morley.

Jarvis kicks things off, before Nick Cave and Paul Morley pick up the baton, talking about selling your songs to sanitary napkin companies and such like. Later, each member of the panel reveals the first gig they ever went to. That's Antony of Antony and the Johnsons making the most mortifying confession, uttering the words 'Mine was the worst ...'

See the edited transcript of what went down in Dublin here, read Jarvis's blog calling on readers to share their unintentionally scary songs here, and listen to him tell Luke Bainbridge about editing the mag, his new album and tour, clips of the Round Table discussion in Dublin, and a sample of Running The World, the much-discussed track from his brilliant new solo album, Jarvis, all here.

I 1978 udkom live-albummet 'Stage'.

An introduction to BONGORAMA.FM

Welcome to an embryonic version of BONGORAMA.FM ("Bongorama Radio"). This blog-in-development is part of the Bongorama Network and a sister web concept to BONGORAMA.TV ("Bongorama Television").

Initially, this site will offer reports about and links to the innovative and international radio stations on the web.

Later - sometime in 2007, we hope - BONGORAMA.FM will deliver original content. Yes, a radio station. The concept for the radio station, including content and technology, are currently being researched and tested. The vision for BONGORAMA.FM is to be 'probably the coolest radio station on the web'. No less.
Welcome. Please come back soon.
